Hibiki 17 is one of the most respected Japanese whiskies out there, and one of the hardest to find. Suntory blend together malt whisky from Yamazaki and Hakushu with grain whisky from Chita, ageing everything at least 17 years before it goes in the bottle. Suntory discontinued it in 2018 once demand ran ahead of their aged stock, so what's left on shelves now is properly rare.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Roses and jasmine up front, with peach, melon, a touch of butter and vanilla, and a hint of incense.
Palate: Custard cream and milk caramel, light and smooth with a gentle sweetness.

Distillery Information

Suntory is Japan's original whisky maker, founded in 1899. Hibiki brings together whisky from the Yamazaki and Hakushu malt distilleries with grain whisky from Chita. The 17 Year Old first came out in 1989 and became one of the standout bottles in the Hibiki range before Suntory pulled it from production.
