Whiskey Tasting Gift Box - An American Whiskey journey through each Style
$79.00
Regular price $69.00Whiskey Tasting Gift Box: American Trio (Bourbon, Rye & Sour Mash) · 3x100ml
Bourbon, rye, and sour mash. Do you know there are three different styles of American whiskey, and could you actually pick them apart in a blind pour? This box is how you find out. Three 100ml bottles, three completely different styles, side by side. No need to commit to three full bottles, just pour, compare, and see what you like.
The Three Styles Explained
- Bourbon has to be at least 51% corn, which is what gives it that sweeter, rounder flavour. Aged in new charred oak, you'll usually get vanilla, caramel, and a bit of oak.
- Rye flips the mash bill, with at least 51% rye grain. That's what gives it more spice and a drier, punchier finish than bourbon.
- Sour mash is actually a fermentation method, not a grain recipe, where a bit of the previous batch is used to kick off the next one. Like sourdough bread. You choose a sour mash whiskey when you value consistency and a smoother, more balanced flavour profile.
What's Included in the Gift Box?
Each gift box contains 3x 100 ml bottles delivered in a Bourbon Brothers tasting pack
- Pinhook Bohemian Bourbon is the bourbon in the box, distilled at Castle & Key in Kentucky, one of the newer distilleries doing genuinely good work. It's built on a high corn mash bill with a touch of rye and malted barley, aged a minimum of 3 years and bottled at a solid 47.5% ABV. This is the sweeter, rounder pour of the three, a good benchmark for what a well made bourbon should taste like.
- Rittenhouse Bottled in Bond Rye is the rye, made by Heaven Hill in Kentucky, one of the most trusted names in American whiskey. It's a bartender favourite for good reason. Majority rye in the mash bill, so expect more spice and punch than the bourbon.
- Michter's US*1 Sour Mash is the wildcard, distilled and bottled by Michter's in Kentucky. It's built on its own grain mix and doesn't fit neatly into either the bourbon or rye category, which is the whole point of including it. Bottled at 43% ABV, it's the one that keeps you guessing, starting like a bourbon and finishing like a rye.
