The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old is one of the most recognised single malts in Speyside, and one of the whiskies that helped establish cask finishing as a serious production technique. Matured first in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, then transferred to European oak Oloroso sherry casks for a second maturation, it was created by malt master David Stewart in 1993 as part of the distillery's centenary.

The result is a whisky that's genuinely easy to drink without being simple. Honeyed and fruity from the sherry influence, with vanilla and warmth from the bourbon wood underneath. Distillery Information

The Balvenie distillery in Speyside is one of the last in Scotland to still run its own malting floor, steeping, drying and kilning its own barley on site. Malt master David Stewart pioneered cask finishing in the late 1970s, and DoubleWood 12 Year Old arrived in 1993 as part of the distillery's centenary, going on to become one of the most recognised names in single malt Scotch.
