Distillery Information

Templeton's story starts in Prohibition-era Iowa, where local bootleggers built a reputation for high-quality rye that made its way to Chicago speakeasies. The modern brand relaunched in 2006 and, for years, had its whiskey distilled under contract in Indiana. After a labelling dispute over how that history was marketed, Templeton opened its own distillery in its Iowa hometown and has been working to bring production back home ever since, bottling Straight Rye there from its stocks while it builds out its own distilling. Head Distiller Lester Brown has called it a reflection of the brand's shift "from an independent bottler to a distiller."
