Ragtime Rye Bottled in Bond is the serious sibling of New York Distilling Company's flagship rye. Aged a minimum of four years and bottled at a full 100 proof to meet the federal Bottled in Bond rules, it's also stamped Empire Rye, meaning every drop of rye grain in the mash comes from New York State farms. Distiller.com scored it 88 points. This is a rye with some backbone: dark fruit, spice and plenty of oak, no dressing it up.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Cherry and candied orange peel up front, with malted milk balls and a hit of cinnamon red hots.

Palate: Full and dry. Oak and leather first, then rye spice and a cool peppermint kick.

Finish: Black pepper, barrel char, vanilla and cinnamon, with plenty of drying oak hanging around.

New York Distilling Company set up shop in Brooklyn and helped write the rulebook for Empire Rye back in 2015, banding together with five other NY distilleries to lock in the standard.
