Michter's US*1 Sour Mash sits in its own lane, not quite a bourbon, not quite a rye, thanks to a unique grain selection that doesn't fit either legal definition. It revives Michter's original Sour Mash recipe, the distillery's most popular pour back in the 1970s and 80s before it disappeared from shelves in 1989. It made its comeback in 2012 as part of the US*1 line and quickly found its own fan base all over again.

The "sour mash" name comes from the production method, using a portion of a previous fermentation to kick off the next one, similar to how you'd keep a sourdough starter going. It's small batch, matured in fire-charred new American white oak, and bottled at 43% ABV. Starts out like a bourbon, finishes like a rye.
