The Macallan is one of the most recognised names in single malt Scotch whisky. The distillery sits on the Easter Elchies estate on the banks of the River Spey in Speyside, Scotland — a site with whisky-making roots stretching back to 1824. Its reputation was built on two things: small copper pot stills that produce a dense, concentrated new-make spirit, and an uncompromising commitment to sherry cask maturation that gives the whisky its characteristic richness and colour.
The Macallan sources its own sherry-seasoned casks from cooperages in Jerez, Spain and in the United States, commissioning them specifically for the distillery rather than sourcing used casks opportunistically. That approach — controlling the wood from the beginning — is what allows each Edition release to be assembled with precision and consistency.
