This is one of those bottles that does something genuinely different. Bardstown Bourbon Company teamed up with West Virginia Great Barrel Company to finish a blended rye in cherry oak barrels that have been toasted using infrared technology. The result is a rye with bold cherry, almond, and spice running through it, balanced out by a smooth backbone from older Canadian whiskey.

The blend pulls together 6-year-old Indiana rye and 12-year-old Canadian whiskey, then sits in those infrared toasted cherry oak barrels to pick up the finish. At 110 proof it's got plenty of flavour without going overboard. Picked up 93 points from the International Wine & Spirits Competition, so the recognition is there.

The Distillery

Bardstown Bourbon Company sits in the heart of Kentucky and has built a name for doing things their own way. They're known for their Collaborative Series, where they team up with other producers and cooperages to make whiskies you can't get anywhere else.

This release was the first in their cooperage collaboration with West Virginia Great Barrel Company. The barrels use cherry oak staves toasted with infrared heat, which is designed to bring out richer flavours while pulling back on harsh tannins. It's a different approach to finishing, and you can taste it in the glass.
