Distillery Information

The Balvenie distillery in Speyside is one of the last in Scotland to still run its own malting floor, steeping, drying and kilning its own barley on site. Malt Master David Stewart, who has been at the distillery for over five decades, pioneered cask finishing in Scotch whisky in the late 1970s. The PortWood 21 Year Old is one of the most celebrated expressions of that technique: two full decades in ex-bourbon oak, then a final maturation in Port casks that adds a layer of rich fruit and spice without covering up the Speyside character underneath.
