Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year Old, better known as Pappy, doesn't need much of an introduction. It's part of the Van Winkle collection, produced by Buffalo Trace, and bottled at nearly barrel proof with just a splash of Kentucky limestone water added after 10 years in the barrel. That wheated mash bill is what gives it the soft, rounded character Van Winkle is famous for.

Jim Murray called it one of the world's great whiskies, and it's picked up a stack of other accolades to back that up. It's rare, it's sought after, and it earns every bit of the hype.

Distillery Information

The Van Winkle name goes back to Julian "Pappy" Van Winkle Sr, and the brand has been produced by Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky since 2002 as part of a joint venture with the Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery company. The wheated recipe and long ageing are what built its reputation, and demand has only grown from there.
