Overview
George Dickel Distillery, located in the scenic hills of Cascade Hollow, Tennessee, is one of the most respected producers of Tennessee whisky. Known for its smooth character and meticulous production methods, Dickel combines traditional whiskey-making with a distinctive approach to charcoal filtration and barrel aging. For bourbon and American whiskey enthusiasts, George Dickel represents a unique style — refined, balanced, and unmistakably Tennessee.
History

George A. Dickel, a German-born Nashville whisky merchant, founded the Dickel distillery in the late 19th century. He believed that Tennessee whisky could rival the finest Scotch, and his dedication to quality and craftsmanship set the foundation for the brand's legacy.
Production began in the 1870s, but like many American distilleries, Dickel’s operations were halted during Prohibition. The brand was revived decades later and has since become one of the defining names in Tennessee whiskey. Today the distillery operates under Diageo, producing a range of whiskies that showcase both heritage and innovation.
Distilling Process
George Dickel is produced using the traditional Tennessee whisky process, which includes charcoal filtration prior to barrel aging — a technique often referred to as the Lincoln County Process.
What makes Dickel distinctive is that the whisky is chilled before filtration, allowing it to pass slowly through maple charcoal. This cold filtration is believed to remove harsher elements and contribute to the whisky’s signature smoothness.
After distillation and filtration, the whisky is aged in new charred American oak barrels in Cascade Hollow’s rickhouses, where the region’s seasonal climate helps develop rich caramel, vanilla, and oak character.
