Corazón Reposado Tequila
Overview
Corazón Reposado takes everything that works about the blanco, the bright, sweet Highland agave character from Los Altos, and settles it down with time in American oak. Aged a minimum of two months, it picks up vanilla and a bit of warmth without losing the agave underneath. The result is a reposado that tastes like a step forward, not a cover-up.
It sits in that sweet spot between the raw freshness of a blanco and the heavier wood influence of an añejo. Smooth enough to sip straight, versatile enough to use in cocktails. A bottle that earns its place on the shelf.
The Distillery
Produced at Destiladora San Nicolás (NOM 1479) in Atotonilco el Alto, in the Los Altos Highlands of Jalisco. Corazón is part of the Bacardi portfolio and is well known for its Expresiones del Corazón series, an aged range that uses barrels sourced directly from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky, including barrels previously holding Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, and Blanton's.
The standard Reposado draws on that same production foundation: quality agave from elevated Highland terrain, traditional cooking methods, and careful aging. It's a serious operation behind what can look like a straightforward label.
Why We Recommend It
At Bourbon Brothers, we recommend Corazón Reposado for customers who want:
- Like the Blanco, this tequila punches well above its price range. We like this brand.
- A reposado with genuine Highland agave character, sweeter and fruitier than lowland expressions
- Oak influence that adds to the flavour rather than dominating it
- A smooth, accessible step up from blanco without going full añejo
- A versatile bottle that handles cocktails and neat pours equally well
If you've been drinking blancos and want to see what a bit of oak does to a quality agave base, this is the right bottle to find out.
Production & Craftsmanship
| Agave | 100% Blue Weber Agave |
| Region | Los Altos (Highlands), Jalisco, high-elevation agave with a naturally sweeter profile |
| Cooking | Traditional brick ovens (hornos) |
| Extraction | Roller mill |
| Fermentation | Open stainless steel tanks |
| Distillation | Double distilled in copper pot stills |
| Additives | None declared |
| Aging | Minimum 2 months in American oak barrels |
The brick oven cooking takes longer than industrial methods but gets more out of the agave, that complexity carries through into the reposado even after time in oak. The aging adds a layer without erasing what's underneath, which is the point.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Cooked agave, vanilla, light caramel, a touch of citrus. Warmer and rounder than the blanco, with the Highland sweetness still clearly there.
Palate
Sweet agave, vanilla, mild oak spice, and soft caramel. The mouthfeel is smooth and easy, no harsh edges. The agave holds its own against the wood.
Finish
Medium length, warm, and gently spiced. Fades cleanly with a bit of lingering vanilla. Nothing that overstays its welcome.
What Makes This Tequila Special
How to Enjoy
A natural fit for a Reposado Margarita, Paloma, or Tequila Old Fashioned, the vanilla and caramel notes pair well with citrus and agave syrup. Also worth trying neat or over a single ice cube to let the oak and agave find their balance. One of those bottles that rewards a bit of patience in the glass.
