ArteNOM Seleccion 1146 Añejo Tequila
Overview
ArteNOM Selección de 1146 Añejo Tequila is a 100% Blue Weber agave tequila made at Tequileña in Jalisco by master distiller Enrique Fonseca, the man also behind Don Fulano and Fuenteseca. Additive-free and double aged, first in French wine casks, then in American oak.
The result is a rich, smooth añejo with serious depth. Plenty going on, but the agave is still front and centre. This one is built for slow sipping, not drowning in mixers.
The Distillery
NOM 1146 is Tequileña, based in the town of Tequila with agave sourced from the Highlands near Atotonilco el Alto. Enrique Fonseca runs the show, and he's one of the most respected names in tequila full stop.
ArteNOM is a curated series that picks out specific NOMs and shows off what they do best. The 1146 bottling is the showcase añejo from Fonseca's house. No shortcuts, no additives, just a properly made tequila.
Why We Recommend It
At Tequila Brothers, we recommend ArteNOM 1146 Añejo for customers who want:
- A serious añejo without the marketing spin
- Additive-free tequila with real craft behind it
- Big, rich flavour that still drinks smooth
- A bottle from one of Mexico's top distillers
If you've been drinking añejos and want to see what a properly made one tastes like, this is the bottle.
Production & Craftsmanship
| Agave | 100% Blue Weber agave |
| Agave Source | Jalisco Highlands, near Atotonilco el Alto |
| Cooking | Low-pressure autoclaves |
| Extraction | Combination of screw mill and roller mill |
| Fermentation | Stainless steel tanks, 100% agave |
| Distillation | Double distilled |
| Stills | Combination of copper pot and column stills |
| Additives | None |
| Aging | Minimum 14 months in used Cabernet Franc wine casks from the Loire Valley, then minimum 14 months in toasted American white oak previously used for Canadian whisky or Tennessee rye |
| NOM | 1146 (Tequileña) |
The double aging is where a lot of the character comes from. The wine casks bring softness and fruit, the American oak adds the structure and spice.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Butterscotch, citrus, baking spice, and vanilla.
Palate
Toffee, walnut, custard, orange zest, and dark chocolate. Smooth mouthfeel with plenty going on.
Finish
Long, rich, and smooth with sweet oak and a bit of lingering spice.
What Makes This Tequila Special
How to Enjoy
Best neat or over a single large cube. Too good to drown in a cocktail, but if you want to mix it, keep things simple. An Añejo Old Fashioned does the job.
