Yellow Rose Outlaw Bourbon

Overview

Yellow Rose Outlaw is a Texas bourbon made from 100% Texas yellow corn, from the first legal whiskey distillery in Houston. It’s small-batch, pot-distilled and aged in small virgin American oak barrels in the Texas heat. The temperature swings of 15 to 20 degrees and an angel’s share of around 15% a year push the whisky hard into the wood, so you get a rich, sweet bourbon with plenty of caramel and vanilla. Jim Murray gave it 94 points. Not bad for an outlaw.

Distillery Information

Yellow Rose Distilling is based in Houston, Texas, and was the first legal whiskey distillery in the city. Outlaw is its all-corn bourbon, made in a traditional pot still and aged entirely in Houston. The big Texas temperature swings mean the whisky works harder in the barrel than it would in Kentucky.

Why we curate it

You don’t see many all-corn bourbons, and even fewer from Texas. Outlaw brings something different to the shelf: rich, sweet and shaped by the Texas heat. Solid step up if you’ve only drunk Kentucky bourbon so far, and one worth having on hand.
