Overview
Kentucky Straight Wheat Whiskey · 700ml

Woodford Reserve Wheat is a straight whiskey made mostly from wheat. Not a wheated bourbon, an actual wheat whiskey. The mash bill is 52% wheat, with only 20% corn, so it can’t be called bourbon. It joined the Woodford range as a permanent bottle in 2019, alongside their bourbon, rye and malt whiskeys.

With its heavy wheat content, it drinks softer and fruitier than most Kentucky whiskey. Think baked apple, pear and banana, with cinnamon, vanilla and a bit of brown sugar. It’s bottled at 45.2%, so it still has enough strength to give it backbone. A good pick if you like Woodford and want something a bit different from the usual bourbon.

Distillery Information

Woodford Reserve is made at the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles, Kentucky, and is owned by Brown-Forman. The Wheat Whiskey was added to the permanent lineup in 2019, joining Woodford’s bourbon, rye and malt whiskeys. The recipe was put together under Master Distiller Chris Morris and leans hard on wheat, which is rare for a Kentucky distillery.

Why we curate it

There aren’t many straight wheat whiskeys out there, and fewer still from a big Kentucky name. This one gives you something different without being hard work. Easy to enjoy if you’re new to whiskey, and interesting enough if you’ve already got a few Woodford bottles on the shelf. A solid one to have on hand.
