Knob Creek 9 Year Old Straight Kentucky Bourbon
Overview
Knob Creek 9 is a proper, full-flavoured bourbon built the old way. Aged a minimum of nine years in new charred American oak and bottled at 100 proof. Created in 1992 by Booker Noe as part of the original small batch movement, it was made to bring back a richer, pre-Prohibition style of Kentucky bourbon.
The result is rich oak, big caramel sweetness, and a long, warming finish that doesn't pull any punches. A solid step up from your usual shelf bottle and a benchmark for what aged Kentucky bourbon should taste like.

What Sets This Bottle Apart
- Aged a minimum of 9 years in new charred American oak
- Bottled at 100 proof for full flavour without holding back
- One of the original small batch bourbons, created by Booker Noe in 1992
- Made at the historic Beam distillery in Clermont, Kentucky
- Returned to its 9 year age statement in 2020
- Built in the pre-Prohibition style, richer and bolder than standard shelf bourbon
Provenance
Knob Creek was launched in 1992 as part of the Jim Beam Small Batch Bourbon Collection, created by sixth-generation master distiller Booker Noe. The brand takes its name from the creek that ran near Abraham Lincoln's boyhood home in Kentucky, a nod to the long history of bourbon making in the state.
It's distilled and aged at the James B. Beam Distilling Co. in Clermont, Kentucky, one of the most historic bourbon distilleries in the country. The 9 year age statement was a defining feature of the brand from day one. After being temporarily dropped during the bourbon boom, the age statement returned in 2020.
Who This Bottle Is For
- Bourbon drinkers ready to step up from standard shelf bottles
- Fans of properly aged Kentucky bourbon with a real age statement
- Drinkers who like bigger flavour and a higher proof pour
- Anyone wanting a reliable bottle to keep on hand for any occasion
- Cocktail makers after a 100 proof bourbon that stands up in a glass
Tasting Notes
Nose
Rich caramel and vanilla with toasted oak, brown sugar, and a hint of dark fruit. Full and inviting.
Palate
Caramel and vanilla up front, layered with toasted oak, baking spice, and a touch of dark fruit. The 100 proof gives it real weight without being harsh.
Finish
Long and warming. Oak, spice, and sweetness fade slowly with a deep, woody close.
How to Enjoy
Drink it neat or with a single rock to open it up. The 100 proof handles a splash of water nicely if you want to bring out more of the sweetness. Also makes a serious Old Fashioned, the extra age and proof carry through the cocktail rather than getting buried.
Why We Curate It at Bourbon Brothers
Knob Creek 9 is one of those bottles that consistently overdelivers. Real age, proper proof, and the kind of full, rich flavour that bourbon is supposed to have. Solid step up from your usual bottle and a bloody good pour for the price. One worth having on hand.
