Bertrand Uberach Jaune Païen Single Cask Single Malt French Whisky

$169.00
Overview

Bertrand has built a reputation for high-quality fruit-based eau-de-vies. Since 2012, the owners have also focused on single malts made on their Holstein still (a pot-and-column combo). French oak is a feature of the project. Former 'Vin Jaune' barrels are amongst the preferred selections. Known as "France's answer to sherry," these casks previously held dry white wine from Jura in eastern France, made from late-harvest Savagnin grapes. These finishes are becoming more common in French whisky, so they obviously work in a complementary fashion. Think yellow stone fruit flavours and hints of citrus. Bertrand's limited edition is produced in batches of around 400 bottles. 49.2% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered.

Distillery Information

Distillerie Bertrand was founded in 1874 in Uberach, a village approximately 45km north of Strasbourg in Alsace. After more than a century producing fruit brandies, it began making whisky in 2003. Uberach whiskies were distilled twice in a Holstein copper column still and matured in French oak, including wine casks from Jura, Burgundy, the Rhône and Banyuls. The colour designation Jaune, meaning yellow, identifies Jura wine casks. The distillery closed in 2025.
