The Dalmore King Alexander III is one of the most ambitious exercises in cask curation in all of Scotch whisky. Named after the 13th-century Scottish king whose reign is remembered as a golden era of prosperity and stability, this non-age-statement Highland single malt is the result of six entirely different cask types working together in a complexity of maturation that few distilleries in Scotland attempt at any price point.
Master Distiller Richard Paterson assembled components from ex-Bourbon barrels, 30-year-old Matusalem Oloroso Sherry butts, Port pipes, Madeira drums, Marsala casks, and Cabernet Sauvignon wine barriques, then married them into a single unified dram. The result is rich and layered, fruit-driven and generous, with a lingering warmth on the finish. This is The Dalmore at its most opulent.
