History

Founded in 1936 in Bardstown, Kentucky, Willett Distillery is one of America’s great family-owned whiskey houses. After decades as a respected producer and bottler, the distillery was revitalised in the early 2010s when the Willett family returned to full on-site distillation. 

Distilling Process

Willett embraces a hands-on, small-batch approach to distillation. Whiskey is produced on a distinctive copper pot still, favouring character and texture over sheer volume. Traditional mash bills are distilled slowly, allowing bold grain flavours and spice to carry through to the barrel.  Aging takes place in classic Kentucky rickhouses, where barrels are carefully monitored and selected for peak maturity. .

Willett is revered for flavour first, consistency second — each batch is selected for character rather than uniformity. This philosophy produces whiskies with personality: rich, spicy, oily, and unmistakably Willett.

The modern Willett renaissance is led by Drew Kulsveen, Master Distiller and grandson of founder Thompson Willett. His approach balances heritage techniques with modern precision, focusing on mash bill expression, barrel selection, and full-flavoured maturation.
