History

The story of Kentucky Owl begins in 1879, when pharmacist Charles Mortimer Dedman founded the distillery on the banks of the Kentucky River. Known for producing some of the state’s highest-quality bourbon, Kentucky Owl thrived until the lead-up to Prohibition.
In 1916, government agents seized the entire inventory for “safe keeping,” but soon after, the rickhouses mysteriously burned to the ground. Thousands of barrels vanished forever, and Kentucky Owl became one of bourbon’s greatest lost legends.

Nearly 100 years later, the Dedman legacy was revived when Charles’s descendant Dixon Dedman resurrected the brand in 2014. His small-batch blends instantly gained cult status, putting Kentucky Owl back at the forefront of ultra-premium bourbon.

Distilling Process

Kentucky Owl bourbons and ryes are crafted through precision barrel selection and elite batch blending. Rather than relying on a single mash bill or distillery output, each release is built from carefully curated, long-aged stocks sourced across Kentucky.
