Tequila Arette

About The Distiller

Brand Profile | Tequila
100% Blue Weber Agave  ·  Tequila, Jalisco (Valley / Lowlands)  ·  NOM 1109

Arette is made at Tequila El Llano (NOM 1109) in the town of Tequila itself, in the valley region of Jalisco. It's run by brothers Eduardo and Jaime Orendain Giovannini, whose family has been in the tequila game for generations.

The distillery sits right in the heart of the lowlands, surrounded by the agave fields it draws from. The setup is hands-on and family-controlled, not a corporate plant. They make Arette as their own brand and also produce tequila for a handful of other names, but Arette is where their stamp is clearest.

100% Blue Weber agave, traditional process, no shortcuts. The Orendains know what they're doing and have been doing it a long time.

The Range

The core Arette range covers the standard expressions, all 100% Blue Weber agave from the lowlands.

  • Arette Blanco -Unaged. Clean cooked agave, citrus, and a touch of pepper. Easy to sip neat and holds up in a margarita.
  • Arette Reposado - Rested in American oak. Softer, with light vanilla and caramel coming in, but the agave still leads.
  • Arette Añejo - Aged longer in American oak. Richer vanilla, caramel, and warm spice, with cooked agave underneath.
  • Arette Gran Clase -Extra Añejo
  • Arette Artesanal Suave Añejo - Aged in American oak for over a year. Rich, warm, and made for slow sipping.
  • Arette Artesanal Suave Reposado - Rested longer than the standard reposado. More oak, more vanilla, still balanced.

History

The Arette brand was launched in 1986 by the Orendain Giovannini brothers, but the family's tequila history goes back well before that. The Orendain name is one of the older ones in Jalisco tequila, and Eduardo and Jaime grew up around the business.

The brand is named after a horse. Arete was a Mexican showjumper ridden by General Humberto Mariles Cortés to a gold medal at the 1948 London Olympics. The brothers added a second t to make Arette and put the horse on the bottle. It's a quiet nod to Mexican pride without making a big song and dance about it.

The distillery, Tequila El Llano, has stayed family-run. They've grown the brand steadily without selling out to a big group, and they've kept the production traditional through it all.

What Makes Tequila Arette Different

Arette is one of the proper old-school valley tequilas. Made in the town of Tequila itself, by a family that's been doing this for generations, with no additives and no marketing fluff dressed up around it.

What it brings to the shelf:

  • 100% Blue Weber agave, grown in the lowlands around Tequila
  • Family run by the Orendain Giovannini brothers
  • NOM 1109, a smaller hands-on distillery, not a high-volume plant
  • A clear step-up tier in the Artesanal Suave line for when you want more
  • Honest pricing for what's actually in the bottle
  • no additives

If you've been drinking the big supermarket tequilas and want to taste what proper valley agave is meant to be like, Arette is one of the easier upgrades to make.

How They Make It

Arette's production combines the efficiency of modern cooking infrastructure with the textural depth of traditional methods.

  • Harvested agave hearts are cooked in a combination of autoclaves and stone ovens, a pairing that allows the distillery to maintain output while preserving the rounded sweetness that longer, slower cooking delivers.
  • Extraction is handled by a roller mill, which separates the cooked juice from the fibrous agave pulp.
  • Fermentation takes place in stainless steel and cement tanks, with the choice of vessel allowing the maestro tequilero to tune the character of the wash depending on the expression being made.
  • Distillation is carried out twice in stainless steel pot stills fitted with copper coils, a configuration that brings the sulphur-stripping benefits of copper contact to bear without the higher capital cost of all-copper equipment.
  • The finished spirit is bottled without additives of any kind: no glycerin, no sugar, no oak extract, no colouring.
