Overview
Master's Keep Unforgotten is the bottle Wild Turkey released to do properly what their famous Forgiven release did by accident. Eddie Russell took 13 year old Kentucky Straight Bourbon, 8 and 9 year old Kentucky Straight Rye, blended them together, and finished the lot in rye casks in the pre-prohibition Rickhouse B at the distillery. The result is older, richer, and more complex than Forgiven, bottled at a serious 105 proof.
It's part of the Master's Keep series, which is where Wild Turkey puts out their most premium limited releases. Batch 1 is the first ever release of Unforgotten, so it's a proper collector's piece on top of being a brilliant pour. One of those bottles you'll wish you grabbed two of.

Provenance
Wild Turkey has been distilling in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky for well over a century, with the Russell family at the heart of it. Jimmy Russell joined in 1954 and his son Eddie Russell now sits alongside him as Master Distiller. Master's Keep is the series Eddie uses to push Wild Turkey into more premium, experimental territory, and Unforgotten is one of the standouts.
The blend was finished in rye casks in Rickhouse B, one of the original pre-prohibition warehouses on the property. That extra time in rye casks is what really sets it apart, layering the spice over the older bourbon and giving it the depth that defines this release.

Nose
Caramel and honey up front, with stewed pear, brown sugar, and gingerbread sitting underneath. Soft cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of caraway run through it.
Palate
Rich and layered. Dried fig, apricot, and caramel apple lead, with sweet oak and rye spice building behind. Butterscotch, gingerbread, and a hint of dark chocolate round it out.
Finish
Medium to long. Banana bread, honey, and rye spice carry through, with cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg lingering on the close. Proper warming finish.
How to Enjoy
Best neat. Give it a few minutes in the glass and the layers really start to open up. A few drops of water can soften the 105 proof and bring more of the sweetness forward. For a bottle of this quality, leave the cocktails for the everyday drinker and pour this one straight.
