Clase Azul Mezcal San Luis Potosi is another step outside the usual mezcal territory. Made from Agave Salmiana, also known locally as Verde, grown at high altitude near Estacion Ipina on the border of San Luis Potosi and Zacatecas — a different region, different agave, and a different spirit again from the Oaxacan Espadín most people picture when they think of mezcal.

It sits between the Durango and Guerrero releases in the Clase Azul mezcal range: stone fruit and earthy character alongside the smoke, roasted agave and dried herbs on the nose, light smoke through the palate, and a long warming finish with lingering minerality. Presented in a striking red ceramic decanter, and every bit as serious a piece of craft as the rest of the range.

Produced in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, from Agave Salmiana grown at roughly 6,500 feet near Estacion Ipina, close to the Zacatecas border. The altitude and dry terrain shape the agave slowly, and that time shows in the glass.

Clase Azul applies the same hand-crafted approach here as across the rest of the range. The agave is roasted and fermented the traditional way, then distilled in copper stills. Every bottle is individually finished by hand in Santa María Canchesda, with the same level of craft that defines the brand.
