Reposado Tequila | La Cofradía
Overview
La Cofradía Torre de Picos Reposado is a 100% agave reposado aged six months in American oak barrels, presented in a hand-painted unglazed ceramic bottle fired at 1260°C by Mexican artisans. The name translates to "Tower of Peaks", a reference to the geometric peaked motifs hand-painted across the surface of the bottle, giving it a distinctly modern, sculptural feel compared to the more traditional Talavera-style designs.
The liquid is produced at La Cofradía's NOM 1137 distillery in the Tequila Valley using a 40-hour masonry oven cook and double distillation, the same rigorous process that underpins the entire La Cofradía range. Six months in American oak adds a warm, rounded softness to the agave character without taking it too far from its roots. Smooth, easy-drinking, and packaged in a bottle that earns its place on any shelf.
The Distillery
Produced at La Cofradía (NOM 1137) in the Tequila Valley of Jalisco, a distillery with over 50 years of production history and a reputation that extends well beyond its own labels. NOM 1137 is the same facility that originally produced Clase Azul tequila, one of the most recognised premium bottles in the world, before that brand moved to its own site, a heritage that speaks to the quality of the operation behind it.
The Torre de Picos sits within La Cofradía's ceramic bottle series, alongside the Talavera. Where the Talavera carries a glazed, brightly coloured finish rooted in traditional Puebla pottery, the Torre de Picos takes an unglazed, more contemporary approach, same craftsmanship, different aesthetic.
Why We Recommend It
At Bourbon Brothers, we recommend La Cofradía Torre de Picos Reposado for customers who want:
- A smooth, well-made reposado from a distillery with serious credentials
- A genuinely striking gift bottle that stands out on the shelf
- The artisan ceramic experience with a more contemporary visual style
- Honest 100% agave quality at an accessible price point
A strong pick for anyone who wants something a cut above the standard commercial reposado, presented in a bottle that holds its own as a decorative piece long after the last pour.
Production & Craftsmanship
| Agave | 100% Blue Weber Agave |
| Cooking | 40 hours in traditional masonry ovens |
| Distillation | Double distilled |
| Aging | 6 months in American oak barrels |
| Additives | Not stated |
| Bottle | Unglazed hand-painted ceramic, fired at 1260°C by Mexican artisans |
The 40-hour masonry oven cook is a deliberate nod to traditional production, slower than modern autoclaves, but it draws out a fuller, more rounded agave character before fermentation begins. Combined with six months in American oak, the result is a reposado that is smooth without being bland, and structured without being heavy.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Light toffee, soft cooked agave, dried fruit, and gentle oak. Clean and approachable with no harsh alcohol on the nose.
Palate
Smooth and easy-drinking. Soft agave, stone fruit, caramel, and a subtle oak backbone. Good balance between freshness and warmth.
Finish
Medium length, warm, and clean. Light toffee and oak that fades gently without bitterness or heat.
What Makes This Tequila Special
100% Blue Weber Agave
40-hour masonry oven cook
6 months American oak aging
Unglazed hand-painted ceramic bottle
Over 50 years production heritage
NOM 1137, birthplace of Clase Azul
How to Enjoy
Excellent neat, over ice, or in a Reposado Margarita or Paloma. The smooth, fruit-forward profile makes it easy to sip on its own without needing a mixer, but it performs well in cocktails too. Like the Talavera, the ceramic bottle is a natural keepsake, the unglazed finish and geometric design make it a popular piece to repurpose once empty.
