History
The Bloody Maria is a spirited twist on the classic Bloody Mary, swapping vodka for tequila, a substitution that traces its roots to Mexico's rich agave culture and the global rise of tequila's prestige in the mid-20th century. While the original Bloody Mary is widely credited to Fernand Petiot at Harry's New York Bar in Paris around 1921, the Bloody Maria emerged as bartenders and home mixologists began experimenting with tequila's earthy, peppery character as a natural complement to the cocktail's bold tomato juice base, hot sauce, Worcestershire, and citrus.
