A staple bottling of bourbon from the Jim Beam distillery, the Old Grand-Dad brand was purchased by Beam in 1987 and has become a fan favourite amongst enthusiasts ever since. This is the 114 edition, which is bottled at a higher ABV of 57%.
Old Grand-Dad 114 Proof Bourbon is a bold, high-rye Kentucky straight bourbon that delivers power, spice, and heritage in every sip. Bottled at a robust 57% ABV (114 proof), it’s named in honour of Basil Hayden, a legendary distiller known for using a high percentage of rye in his mash bill—something this whiskey proudly continues.
The mash bill, reportedly around 63% corn, 27% rye, and 10% malted barley, gives this bourbon its distinctive spice and lively character. On the nose, expect bursts of cinnamon, orange zest, caramel, and charred oak. The palate is full-bodied and intense, with flavours of toffee, black pepper, roasted nuts, vanilla, and a punch of rye spice. It’s rich but balanced, with heat that’s bold but not brash. The finish is long, dry, and satisfying, leaving behind notes of cracked pepper, toasted oak, and baking spices.
